Sheldon Shealer joined Freedom2Play as part of the original launch in 2021.
He brings to the job more than 30 years of national sports experience, ranging from media coverage to running events to serving as director for a football foundation. In addition, Shealer is the program director for the Maryland School for the Deaf Foundation, helping secure major gifts and while revamping and guiding the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations at the MSD Foundation have more than doubled in the past year and the operations have been streamlined and enhanced. In his role with the Maryland Football Foundation, he helped create the organization's first virtual clinic which featured several major college coaches, along with an active NFL coach and a former NFL player.
Before being part of the MSD Foundation and Maryland Football Foundation, Shealer worked for ESPN, Rivals, StudentSports, and The Washington Post, among other media stops. Shealer has created and managed sports events for Nike, Manchester City soccer, and Baltimore Ravens. He is a member of three Halls of Fame, one for athletic achievement and two for his groundbreaking work in sports media and recruiting coverage, which include two national journalism awards.
Outside of the sports world, Shealer teaches journalism, communications, and sports marketing at Mount St. Mary's University and English at Hood College. He holds a Master's degree in public affairs/journalism from American University, where he competed as a member of the university's cycling team. The native of Frederick, Md., received his bachelor's in communications from Mount St. Mary's. He resides in Myersville, Md., with his wife, Kelly, and three children.
Doug DePeppe originally conceived the notion of re-imagining the way that competitive youth sports are organized and funded in the United States.
DePeppe has established and led a national nonprofit, the Cyber Resilience Institute, and its Sports-ISAO and c-Watch programs since 2014. A retired US Army Judge Advocate, DePeppe has engaged in multidisciplinary law, consulting, and executive advisory services for over 35 years. He served on the 2009 White House 60 - day Cyberspace Policy Review, as part of the Lawyers Working Group; and, in 2018, he was inducted into the Information Sharing Hall of Fame.
DePeppe has been involved with youth sports as a coach and organizer for more than twenty years. He serves on a scholastic sports committee formed by the Board of Education for a school district in Colorado, where he focuses on student-athlete pathways. DePeppe also volunteers for other community-based, economic development efforts in Colorado Springs. Recently, DePeppe has engaged with a leading UK consultancy in the delivery of an online anti-racism initiative for the Premier League in England.
DePeppe lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Beth, and they have three boys between high school and college who have progressed through several youth sports as part of their development and maturation.
